Literacy expert Sharon Callen talks about quick writing and the need for rehearsal to fire up student writers.
Teachers often struggle with students who don't have the motivation, skills and strategies to activate their extended writing and start taking risks. This is where it is important for teachers to support a rehearsal process.
What is Quick Writing?
It's a quick-to-use tool to free the writer’s mind, to help them learn how to craft writing and to give it a go, once, twice, reflect ... and again. It puts them in the driver’s seat and gives independent opportunity. It moves the student into trying it out rather than being involved in extensive joint constructions and shared experiences.
