The Teacher's Tool Kit For Literacy

New Release Books To Inspire Young Learners

Episode Summary

Lucy Stinson and Genevieve Kruyssen talk about the best new books for teachers to use in the classroom.

Episode Notes

Teachers are always on the lookout for fresh ideas and especially books to use effectively in the classroom.

They are looking for ways to connect the books with the curriculum - as read alouds, mentor texts, shared reading, shared writing, word work and more.

To talk about the best new books and more, we're joined by two guests live from Where The Wild Things Are bookstore in Brisbane.

Previous guest Lucy Stinson is back with a new role working with Where The Wild Things Are, along with the book store's event coordinator, Genevieve Kruyssen, who is a children's bookseller of seven years, who delights in stories of wild quests and beautiful writing. Genevieve has interviewed some of her heroes including Neal Shusterman, Kate DiCamillo, Jon Klassen, Emily Gravett and Levi Pinfold, and in 2021 she won ABA Penguin Random House Young Bookseller of the Year.

Lucy and Genevieve share their recommended books, including  how to use them and connect them with curriculum.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY ABOUT US...

"Working with Sharon and Cue has given my staff a new impetus and focus on improving our student's literacy and learning. The "it's not a program" approach has given teachers the skills, structures and confidence to teach reading and writing in a highly explicit way but still allow it be joyful, interesting and motivating. Cue have been fantastic in their flexibility to deliver their support through video, face-to-face sessions, classroom modelling and ongoing 1 to 1 Zoom sessions. Distance has not been an issue."
Andrew, Principal,  Western Australia
